Kishtwar’s Saffron receives GI tag from Geographical Indications Registry

The mountainous Kishtwar district’s saffron has been officially recognized with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry.

Cultivated and harvested in the higher altitudes, this spice is a significant product in certain areas of Kishtwar, as well as parts of Kashmir.

Renowned as Kumkum, the saffron from Kishtwar is not only a legendary and highly valued harvest but also a vital cash crop in the isolated mountainous district of Kishtwar in Jammu.

The granting of the GI tag is a welcome development for the Kishtwar district, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the region’s economy and culture.
