Kolkata rape-murder: BJP’s Sanjay Jaiswal says role of Bengal govt, police “doubtful”, seeks SC intervention
New Delhi [India], August 24 (ANI): BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal expressed deep concern over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and takes on the West Bengal government and the state police.
While speaking to ANI regarding the case, Jaiswal urged the Supreme Court to take separate cognizance into the matter.
“The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case is very sad and unfortunate. CBI has informed the court that the crime scene has been altered. The role of the West Bengal government and police is doubtful. The Supreme Court should take separate cognizance into this matter,” the BJP leader said.
On August 23, Bengal’s Sealdah Court sent the main accused Sanjay Roy to 14 days of judicial custody. Roy will remain in judicial custody until September 6, 2024, under the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The Calcutta High Court earlier granted permission to the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and five others who had dinner with the deceased doctor on the day of the incident and one civic volunteer.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging to bring in central legalisation and set up fast-track courts for “sensitive” issues to ensure fast speedy trials.
The rape and murder of the trainee doctor have triggered widespread outrage and protests in cities including Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Kolkata, with calls for justice for the victim and punishment for the accused. The postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
