Kulgam Police Registers 123 FIRs, Arrests 155 Drug Peddlers in 2024
SSP Sahil Saringal: “On a mission to make Kulgam drug-free”
In its relentless war against drugs, Kulgam Police has taken significant strides by registering 123 FIRs and arresting 155 drug peddlers across the district in 2024. Acting swiftly on public complaints and directions from higher authorities, the police launched a decisive crackdown on the drug mafia operating in the area.
Speaking to Current News Service CNS, SSP Kulgam Sahil Saringal said, “We have registered 123 FIRs and arrested 155 peddlers in the past year. This campaign will continue until our mission of making Kulgam drug-free is achieved. We urge the public to cooperate with us and support our efforts in eradicating this menace.”
The district, which had gained notoriety for drug-related activities in recent years, has witnessed a turnaround due to intensified police action. SSP Saringal highlighted that contraband substances worth approximately ₹50 lakhs, including poppy straw, cannabis, charas, ganja, brown sugar, heroin, and codeine, have been recovered during the year. Additionally, 10 drug peddlers have been booked under the PIT NDPS Act/PSA, and 24 warrants have been executed.
In a significant move, authorities have seized 17 structures valued at ₹15 crores believed to be linked to drug-related activities. The police have assured that the drive will continue until the district is free from the grip of drug mafias.
As part of their civic action programs, the Kulgam Police also distributed study materials and school uniforms to underprivileged students from remote areas, showcasing their commitment to community welfare alongside crime prevention.
The police reiterated their appeal to the people to join hands with them in eradicating the drug menace, marking a stronger bond between law enforcement and the public.
