KVK-Anantnag, SKUAST-K hold Mega Equine Clinical Camp for Ponnywalas at Chandanwari Pahalgam
ANANTNAG, August 02: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Anantnag, SKUAST-Kashmir today jointly organised a Mega Equine Health Camp at Chandanwari Pahalgam for the ponnywals who are associated with the smooth passage of Shri Amarnathji Yatris.
This programme/camp is part of SKUAST-Kashmir’s outreach initiative under the leadership of Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai and under the guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammed Makdoomi and Head KVK-Anantnag, Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan.
The camp was held at Chandanwari-Pahalgam en-route to holy Amarnath Cave. Dr. Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana who is on a three days visit to Kashmir was the special guest on the occasion.
During the programme hundreds of equines were examined with sophisticated diagnostic machinery by the scientists of Kendra, a team of experts from FV Sc. & AH Shuhama, SKUAST-K & Animal Husbandry Department Anantnag for general health check-up. On spot treatment to the ailing animals were provided besides a kit of medicines was provided to each ponnywala present.
Vice Chancellor while appreciating the efforts of KVK-Anantnag for conducting such a camp first time in Chandanwari further emphasised on the need to have a hospital for equines so that the welfare of Ponnywalas is ensured who are engaged with this profession from centuries.
VC thanked District administration for providing the logistic support for making the camp successful.
