KVK Samba organises Farmers- Scientists interaction at Village Nichla

SAMBA, SEPTEMBER 01: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba, under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu, organized Farmers Scientist Interaction at village Nichla, today.

The event was held under the leadership of Professor. Bhupindernath Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and the direct supervision of Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu.

The programme was conducted to interact with the farmers of Village Nichla regarding various field problems and their solutions. The programme was attended by more than 40 farmers.

The programme was started with the welcome address by Prof. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Samba, he welcomed all the farmers and farm women. He highlighted the mandate of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He also discussed the various activities undertaken by KVK Samba for the benefit and upliftment of farmers in Samba district and the multi-dimensional role of farmers for maintaining sustainability and prosperity in agriculture. He also briefed about the various ongoing activities/programmes of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba and how the farming community may avail the benefits of KVK by providing the various technical support to them. He further stressed upon strengthening the efforts to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem among Farmer, Farm women of the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Neerja Sharma Senior Scientist Horticulture stressed upon crop diversification by cultivating High Density fruit plants and also aware them about all centrally sponsored schemes for the benefit of the common masses. She shared his experience about various dimensions of Horticulture with regard to use of fertilizers, pruning, soil health, marketing and other related aspects. DrAbhay Kumar Sinha, Scientist (Ag. Engineering) explained the importance of soil and water conservation. He told the farmers that Soil and water are two important natural resources and the basic needs for agricultural production and Soil conservation is a key to environmental sustainability.

Dr. Saurav Gupta Scientist (Entomology) highlighted the role of the farmers in the economic development of the nation and suggested that farmers can contribute in a better way if they do mushroom farming and beekeeping. He told the farmers about the importance of Beekeeping in increasing the productivity of crops through pollination. He explained how the Beekeeping can play an important role in doubling the farm income by adopting different means like value addition, marketing and grading of Honey. Dr. ShaliniKhajuriaProgramme Assistant, KVK Samba emphasized the importance of soil in agricultural productivity. She stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques to promote soil health.Dr. amitMahajan also briefed in detail about the judicious use of fertilizers.

Kewal Krishan progressive farmer of village Nichla appreciated the efforts of KVK Samba led by Prof. Sanjay Khajuria and his team for conducting such a Mega event for the farmer’s community of the district. He urged upon the farming community to remain in touch with the KVK Samba for any technical help in order to boost their economy. Others who actively assisted to make the event successful includes Bharat Bhushan, Tejinder Singh and Pawandeep Singh of the KVK Samba.
