Labour department holds series of awareness camps in Ukhral

RAMBAN, September 26: Labour and Employment Department Ramban organized today awareness-cum- Grievances redressal camps at Dakbanglow and Government Degree College Ukhral in Sub- Division Ramsoo to educate the people about the labour laws and  the welfare schemes offered by the Jammu and Kashmir Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB).

Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Dr. Sushant Majahan presided over the camps which were attended by the chairperson BDC, Karlip Singh,   officials of line departments, PRIs, locals   including construction workers of Block Ukhral and adjoining areas.

At the awareness session on schemes of the Labour and Employment Departments held in the Government Degree Colleges Ukhral,  the ALC acquainted  the students about schemes like   Mumkin , Tejaswani and NCS, besides services like Career Counselling and others available at DECC and MCC.

Interacting with the construction workers and labourers,   the ALC encouraged them to register in the department to avail benefits of schemes launched  by the government for their welfare. The Department and Board are working in tandem for the development and welfare of the workers, he said and added that the labour class is the backbone for development and the government is prioritizing their welfare.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner highlighted various schemes being executed by the Department. He said that for education of wards of workers an assistance of Rs 2500 to Rs 10000 is being provided for lower education, Rs 15000 for post-graduation, Rs 30000 for diploma courses and Rs 50000 for professional courses.

The Department also provides assistance of Rs 1 lakh to the registered construction workers for treatment of chronic diseases. Likewise, assistance upto Rs 2 lakh is also being provided to dependents in case of death  of a worker.

The ALC urged upon the workers to register with the ALC office to get due benefits under J&K Building and other construction Workers Welfare Act. He also redressed grievances of the labour community on-the-spot.  During the programme, IEC material and registration forms were also distributed among the participants.

The ALC also visited construction sites including NH-44 project and interacted with the labourers, besides sensitizing them about the Labour Laws and safety measures etc.
