LAHDC, District Adm Leh launches anti-encroachment drive
Urges people to voluntarily remove encroachments over water bodies
Leh, July 27: Following the recent floods in the Leh district, the LAHDC and District Administration Leh, in collaboration with Municipal Committee Leh, has taken prompt action by launching an anti-encroachment drive. This drive is targeted at the Skamlung Nallah, which runs through the town and witnessed substantial encroachments, exacerbating the flood situation and leading to extensive property damage and destruction of residential houses.
The flash floods, triggered by the overflowing Nallah, caused widespread destruction to residential properties, standing crops, and personal belongings of the affected residents.
On the direction of Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, and District Magistrate Leh, the Administration swiftly initiated the removal of over 200 trees that had encroached upon the Skamlung Nallah, hindering the natural flow of water.
In light of the recent calamity, the district administration earnestly appeals to all individuals and community members to remove the encroachments voluntarily and avoid encroaching on waterways to prevent exacerbating the impact of natural disasters. Taking such measures can significantly minimize damage and ensure the safety and well-being of the community during future challenges.
