LAHDC Leh in collaboration with GoldenMile Learning Conducted Teacher Knowledge Test to Enhance English Language Teaching

Leh, April 11, 2025: The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, in collaboration with Golden Mile Learning (GML), conducted the Teacher Knowledge Test (TKT) under the ongoing Reinforced Teacher Training (RTT) program at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Leh.

This assessment marks a significant milestone in the RTT initiative, which began in 2022 with the aim of enhancing the pedagogical and language proficiency skills of English teachers across government schools in the six educational zones of Ladakh.

The examination was designed by subject experts at Goldenmile Learning (Mumbai), modelled on the Cambridge assessment framework, and covered 120 questions to be completed in 120 minutes, regarding: Language and background to language learning; Lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching; Managing the teaching and learning process.

With the changeover from Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it is observed that the RTT program has helped many teachers tackle new approaches and methods needed to teach the new curriculum. The training was focused around three areas: addressing the pedagogical issues related to teaching the CBSE curriculum effectively, enhancing language proficiency of the educators, and a shift of attitude towards teaching English (from teaching as a subject to teaching as a language).

Further, this program ensures improving educators’ engagement, know-how and appreciation of technology in classrooms, along with endowment of confidence and teacher identity.

Chief Education Officer, Sonam Angchok, formally inaugurated the examination by unveiling the question papers and declaring the test open. To ensure transparency and fairness, the examination was conducted under the observation of officials appointed by the Department of Education, along with senior representatives from Goldenmile Learning, both onsite and online.

Successful candidates from this evaluation will participate in a high-level ‘Train the Trainer’ (TTT) program in July 2025. This next phase will be led by national and international master trainers and will prepare selected teachers to become indigenous ELT trainers for the region.

This remains a flagship teacher training initiative of GML in collaboration with LAHDC Leh, Ladakh (UT), empowering English language teaching teachers to become effective, successful and inspired classroom practitioners, fostering superior student learning outcomes.
