Law School, Jammu University Organises Interactive Session On Role Of Police in Criminal Justice System

JAMMU, April 13: An interactive session on “The role of police in the criminal justice system was organised by The Law School, University of Jammu on 13th April 2023. The chief guest for the occasion was Sh. Nitish Kumar IPS, Inspector General of Police CID while Mr. Zahid Manhas, Senior Superintendent Police CID Jammu was the guest of honour.

The welcome address was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Manju Jamwal, Director, The Law School University of Jammu where she introduced the dignitaries with the students and faculty members. In her address, Dr. Jamwal emphasised on the fact that such interactions not only help in developing the professional and academic skills of the students but also help students get familiarized with police accountability and enforceability mechanism.

Sh. Nitish Kumar in his interaction deliberated upon four important pillars in the criminal justice system and police being one of the foundation pillars. He also said that the police plays a vital role in mainstreaming public order to combat crime and discussed how police functionaries have developed enforcement mechanism while coordinating with the judiciary to provide administration of justice.          

The lecture was followed by a question-and-answer session where the enthusiastic students asked questions related to the criminal administration system. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Seema Sharma. She extended special thanks to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CID wing and efforts initiated by Sh. Nitish Kumar IPS, to ignite the minds of the young budding upcoming advocates through such insightful lecture. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Aditya Mahajan.
