Leh celebrates International Mother Language Day
LEH, February 21: Celebrating International Mother Language Day, the Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture of Languages, Leh organised a day-long symposium themed, ‘Socio-Cultural significance of Mother Language’ at Lotsava Auditorium today. This year’s UNESCO’s theme for International Mother Language Day is “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education”.
Dy Chairman/EC Education, Tsering Angchuk was the chief guest of the occasion. Cultural Officer, LAACL Leh, Prominent scholars of Ladakh, and young research scholars attended the day-long symposium.
All the scholars and researchers shared their paper presentations and piece of poetry highlighting the significance of the mother language and the importance of preserving and promoting Ladakhi literature.
In his keynote address, Dy Chairman Angchuk stressed the important role of youths in preserving and uplifting our mother language in the modern day time. He also highlighted the steps taken by the government in strengthening Ladakhi culture, tradition, literature, and languages through various initiatives.
He stressed the need for mass awareness and initiative from the citizens in encouraging youths, especially school-going students to take a keen interest in learning the Bhoti language at the grassroots level.
He emphasised that LAHDC Leh is leaving no stone unturned to assist in the overall holistic development of the society and working collectively with all the concerned stakeholders to preserve the age-old traditions, culture, and languages in the interest of all.
