Leprosy awareness programme held at Bharath- Doda
DODA, JULY 14: To raise awareness about prevention and treatment of Leprosy, a team from District Leprosy Society Doda today organized an awareness programme at Village Kulhand and Bharath in Medical Block Ghat District Doda.
The awareness programme was held under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr. Ab Hamid Zargar.
The awareness sessions were held at Government Lower High School Kulhand, AWC Thawa and PHC Bharath where the expert teams educated people about signs and symptoms of Leprosy diseases and how to detect the leprosy cases.
During the camp, scores of people were screened by the health team besides conducting the follow up of the old cases.
Surinder Singh Bijyal (Paramedical Supervisor) informed the public that the main objective of organizing awareness programmes is to create awareness among masses on Leprosy, to reduce stigma and discrimination in the community and for early detection of Leprosy cases.
He sensitized the people that Leprosy disease is completely curable at all stages and is not a communicable disease and signs and symptoms help to detect the Leprosy cases.
The staff also distributed Information Education and Communication material on the disease among the general public.
The staff of HWC- Sub Centre Kulhand and PHC Bharath extended their support in making the awareness camps successful.
Those who were part of the team included Krishan Chand (Sr PMA), Ram Raj (PMA) and concerned Staff and ASHAs of the area.
