LG Manoj Sinha reviews implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission, Swachh Bharat-Gramin in J&K

Jammu, Apr 24 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reviewed the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin with senior officials here.

Sinha appraised the district-wise status of ongoing and completed projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission across the Union Territory and discussed the quarterly action plans for coverage of household tap connections and community mobilisation in the implementation of the flagship programme, a spokesperson said.

Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, advisor to the Lt Governor; Vini Mahajan, secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Union Jal Shakti Ministry; Shaleen Kabra, principal secretary in the Jal Shakti department, and other officers attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed on the various components of the Jal Jeevan Mission, including the status of tendering, allotment of works, procurement, financial requirements and accreditation of district-level laboratories, among others, the spokesperson said.

He said discussions were also held on the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin.

Sinha was briefed about the progress in construction of community sanitary complexes, targets for ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus villages and solid waste management, the spokesperson said.

Community participation is key to speedy implementation and the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin should become a “jan andolan (mass movement)” with the help of Panchayati Raj Institutions and citizens, Sinha noted.
