LS polls: Mamata Banerjee casts vote in Kolkata
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 1 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday cast her vote at a polling booth in Kolkata.
After exercising her voting franchise, she showed the victory sign.
Voting is underway in West Bengal’s nine seats, including Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur.
The voter turnout in the states in polling today as of 3 pm are Bihar- 42.95 per cent, Odisha–49.77 per cent, Punjab–46.38 per cent, Uttar Pradesh–46.83 per cent, West Bengal–58.46 per cent and Himachal Pradesh 58.41 per cent. The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded 52.61 per cent as of 3 pm.
After the conclusion of voting, the outcome of exit polls will be aired on various TV channels.
The Election Commission has issued a ban on exit polls from 7 am on April 19 to 6:30 pm on June 1, till the conclusion of polling. The high-voltage campaigning for the final phase of Lok Sabha polls ended on Thursday.
Polling for the earlier six phases of Lok Sabha elections was held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25. Assembly polls have also been held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Odisha is seeing simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and assembly in the last four phases.
