Maharaja Hari Singh Social & Education Foundation & The Runway Diaries take immense pride in participating at VYOM-J&K 2023
Jammu 29 Dec: In a heartwarming initiative, the Department of Social Welfare , of Jammu and Kashmir Government organised, VYOM-J&K 2023, a vibrant and impactful two-day ‘Purple Festival’ on December 28th and 29th, 2023 championing the cause of inclusion and diversity, the first-ever festival honouring and felicitating the remarkable achievements of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) across J&K.
The event was inaugurated by LG Shri Manoj Sinha, joined virtually by Union Minister of MOSJ&E Dr. Virendra Kumar Ji,in the presence of Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar ,Advisor to LG , Sheetal Nanda , Commissioner Secretary , Sh Ramesh Kumar , Divisional Commissioner J&K Anoo. Malhotra ,Secretary Social Welfare Department , VC Jammu University and many officials and dignitaries, marking a significant milestone in the journey of empowering Divyangjan in the J&K UT.
Highlighting the essence of inclusion, the festival aimed to inspire unity and collective efforts toward the empowerment and rehabilitation of Divyangjan, fostering an inclusive society for all. Several esteemed organisations including Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Education Foundation, an integral participant in this festival, has been at the forefront of initiatives empowering and supporting the specially-abled, exemplifying their commitment to the cause. The Runway Dairies, and Delhi Public School Jammu also actively participated in this impactful initiative.
The live activity counters witnessed remarkable initiatives such as the Roshni Drive supported by Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Education Foundation, showcasing visually impaired children being trained in Braille using Smart Annie devices.
Additionally, the Art and Craft live counter showcased various exquisite items skillfully crafted by specially-abled participants from Jigar Foundation, Muskan Home, and Samaj Kalyan Kendra under the guidance of the art faculty of DPS Jammu. These items, including paintings, wall hangings, coaster stands, decorative candles, greeting cards, sculptures, marble paintings, and block paintings, were not only exhibited but also made available for sale, aimed at encouraging self-dependence among the participants.
Moreover, the event witnessed captivating performances, including a Dogri dance presented by students of Samaj Kalyan Kendra, beautifully choreographed by the DPS dance faculty, adding a cultural touch to the inaugural function.
In a significant highlight, Kuwrani Ritu Singh actively participated in the placement drive, providing on-the-spot appointment letters to two specially-abled participants, furthering the cause of empowerment and opportunities for Divyangjan.
The evening of the Purple Festival also witnessed a mesmerising and soul-stirring fashion show titled ‘The Rainbow,’ presented by The Runway Diaries. Specially abled participants confidently walked the ramp adorned in beautifully curated costumes adhering to the rainbow theme. These stunning costumes were designed by Dharini, Sabhyata, Jogmaya Creations, Butehz, Poshak Designer Studio, Poshak Bridal Couture, Virtues, and Wazir C. .As a gesture of love and gratitude, the dresses curated by the designers were gifted to the participants, symbolising appreciation for their participation and embracing their talents. The exquisite jewellery for the show was designed by Nazarana Jewels and Pooja Khurana. The impeccable make-up and hairstyling were orchestrated by Hair Masters, while the live music for the fashion show was rendered by Sonali Dogra and Rinku from Mansar . This pioneering fashion show, the first of its kind featuring specially abled individuals, was anchored by Amar Chouhan and witnessed by esteemed dignitaries including Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar ,Advisor to LG , Sheetal Nanda, Commissioner Secretary Anoo Malhotra, and other senior officers.
In a closing gesture, Dr. Kuwrani Ritu Singh presented a vote of thanks, expressing her gratitude to the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu and Kashmir, for organising this first-of-its-kind event in J&K.
The event touched many hearts and stood as a testament to the power of inclusion and unity.
