Maharashtra: Woman hit by speeding car in Palghar dies, driver arrested
Palghar (Maharashtra) [India], August 2 (ANI): A 46-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by a speeding car in the Virar area of Maharashtra’s Palghar district.
The deceased has been identified as 46-year-old Atmja Kasat, a teacher at the Utkarsh Junior College.
Arnala police has arrested the driver of the Toyota Fortuner identified as Shubham Patil.
According to information, on Thursday evening, Atmaja Kasat was passing in front of Muljibhai Mehta School in Virar West, when a car coming from behind hit her.
She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Kasat, however, succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The Arnala Sagari police arrested driver Shubham Patil late on Thursday night.
Earlier this month, on July 20, a 28-year-old man Vinod Lad Lad was hit by a speeding car on Abdul Gaffar Khan Road near Worli Sea Link. He died during his treatment on July 27.
The Worli Police said that the victim, Vinod Lad, died seven days after the accident. The police have registered a case against the driver, Kiran Indulkar and have arrested him.
A similar hit-and-run incident at Mumbai’s Worli resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman when a speeding luxury car hit a scooter on Dr Annie Besant Road on July 7.
Kaveri Nakhwa (45), a resident of Worli Koliwada was killed after a luxury car crashed into the bike she was travellin on with her husband. Mihir Shah, the accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, was presented before the Sewri court on July 16 for further remand proceedings and was subsequently sent to judicial custody for 14 days, till July 30.
The Police had sought further police custody for the accused but the court refused the demand.
According to the police, during the investigation, Shah refused to answer critical questions about his actions and whereabouts after the crime. He did not disclose why he fled the scene, where he disposed of his car’s number plate, or the identities of those who allegedly harboured him while he was on the run.
On May 19 this year a Porsche car, allegedly driven by a minor in an inebriated condition, hit two IT professionals, killing them in the Kalyani Nagar area of Pune.
In May again a 28-year-old man in Pimpri Chinchwad of Pune district died on the spot after being hit by a speeding car. The incident occurred on May 27 at around 1.30 am on service road alongside the Pune-Bangalore highway in the Wakad area of Pimpari Chinchwad. The accused was arrested on May 28.
