Major bovine smuggling attempt thwarted by Reasi police under “Operation Dhenu”, 16 cattle rescued
In a successful operation against animal trafficking, the Reasi Police, under their ongoing initiative “Operation Dhenu,” rescued 16 bovine animals from a truck at the Moori Check Post on Friday night.
The incident unfolded as the truck, bearing registration number JK02DD1889, approached the checkpoint. Instead of stopping for inspection, the driver attempted to evade capture by crashing into the barricade. He then managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered 16 bovine animals crammed inside. The animals were immediately rescued and the truck was seized by the authorities.
An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at the Katra Police Station under various sections, including the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA Act), and the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act (PDP Act). The whole operation is led by IC PP Kakryal and SHO Katra.
An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver, as well as unearth any potential networks involved in the smuggling operation.
