Manchester United defeats Chelsea, confirms Champions League spot next season
Manchester [UK], May 26 (ANI): In the Premier League match held at the Old Trafford stadium on Friday. Manchester United defeated Chelsea 4-1, securing their UEFA Champions League qualification by finishing in the top four of the league table.
Casemiro opened the scoring for Manchester United in the 6th minute of the match. He scored a header from a free-kick given to Manchester United in the early minutes of the game.
Just around the half-time mark, Anthony Martial scored the second goal for Manchester United in the additional time of the first half. He scored a tap-in from a pass by Jadon Sancho.
Later in the 73rd minute, Bruno Fernandes scored from a penalty kick to make the score 3-0 for Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford scored the fourth goal for Manchester United in the 78th minute of the match.
Chelsea grabbed a consolation goal in the 89th minute of the match as Joao Felix scored from outside the 18-yard box to beat Manchester United’s goalkeeper.
Manchester United took a total of 18 shots out of which nine were on target. Thier possession on the ball accounted for 41 per cent. Manchester United completed 438 passes with an accuracy of 84 per cent.
Chelsea took 14 shots out of which five were on targets. Their possession on the ball during the match was 59 per cent. They accumulated a total of 617 passes with an accuracy of 90 per cent.
Manchester United are third in the Premier League table with 72 points. They have played 37 matches out of which they have won 22, lost nine and drawn six.
Manchester United will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season as they have managed to qualify for it by finishing in the top four of the Premier League table.
Chelsea are 12th in the Premier League table with 43 points. They have played 37 matches, winning 11, losing 16 and drawing 10.
Chelsea will be playing their last league game against Newcastle United on Sunday.
Manchester United will be playing their last league game against Fulham on Sunday.
In the FA Cup Final, Manchester United will be playing against Manchester City on June 3 at the Webley Stadium.
