MARES organises Awareness/ Popularization programme at Gurez

BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 02: Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension station (MARES) Izmarg Gurez organised a third awareness cum popularization programme under Innovative Extension Approaches for Promoting Agriculture.

The theme of the programme was ‘Employment Generation and Livelihood security through offseason cultivation of vegetable crops’.

The program was attended by Tehsildar Gurez, Head of KVK-Gurez Dr Bilal Ahmad. Professor Incharge NBPGR, Srinagar Prof. Sheikh M. Sultan was guest of honour besides officers from the Indian army.

Morethan 150 farmers including farm women, youth, members of SHGs and officers and officials from various line departments attended the program.

Dr Mohammad Mudasir Magray coordinator of the program said that the daylong event focused on employment generation and livelihood security through off-season cultivation of vegetable crops and deliberated upon various protected cultivation technologies which can ensure year round production of vegetable crops.

Prof. Sheikh Sultan stressed upon the significance of the conversation of indigenous crops of Gurez valley.

Dr Bilal Ahmed Bhat while addressing the gathering briefed them about the scope and importance of off-season cultivation of vegetables especially in Gurez conditions.
