MCC organised one-day workshop on “Preventive Conservation of Manuscript” at University of Jammu

JAMMU, May 19: The “International Museum Day”  was organised with much fanfare and enthusiasm by the Manuscript Conservation Centre (MCC) , Shashvat Art Gallery & Museum, established by National Mission for Manuscript, Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi here today. 

On the occasion, a One-Day Workshop on “Preventive   Conservation of Manuscript ” was organised by MCC in collaboration with the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu.

Prof. Sushma Devi Gupta, Head,Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu introduced the theme of the workshop and stressed upon the need to preserve and conserve our rich cultural heritage including the rare Manuscripts pride of India. 

Prof. (Dr. ) Shohab Inayat Malik, Head Department of Buddhist Studies, Prof. Sucheta Pathnia, Dean Faculty of Arts and HOD English Jammu university, Prof. Ram Bahadur Shukla, Dr. Vidya Dhar, Dr. Satya Priya, Dr. Priyanka, Dr. Pritibha, Dr.Prince, Madam neelam Rajdhan, madam Santosh shah and other university dignitaries were also present and participated in the celebrations.

The key resource person Dr. Suresh Abrol, Director, MCC Jammu and his team included Mr. Ramesh Chander(Advisor),Sh. K.K. Kotwal (Technical Assistant and Conservator ) and Mr. Arvind Kotiyal (Senior Conservator) of Shashvat Art Gallery & Museum.

 There were two sessions in the workshop. In the first session, Director of the Gallery & Museum, Dr. Suresh Abrol made the students aware about the various aspects of the conservation of manuscripts and their importance. Further, he highlighted the various initiatives taken by the gallery related to the conservation of heritage and culture of the region. The second  technical session was headed by Mr. Arvind Kotiyal, Senior Conservator. During this session, he ably demonstrated to the students various methods for conservation of manuscripts by using acid free paper. Around 25 students of the 3th and 6th semesters of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu participated in the workshop. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Partibha.
