Meeting of SC and OBC Department of J&K Congress organised at Bahu Fort Jammu.
December 10, Jammu: A significant meeting of the Schedule Caste (SC) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) Departments of the Congress Party was organised under the leadership of Dewan Chand, Chairman SC Department, Jammu District, District Congress Committee, at Press Morh, Bahu Fort. The meeting was focused on the theme “Samvidhan Bachao, Desh Bachao” (Save the Constitution, Save the Nation), emphasizing the importance of protecting constitutional rights and promoting social justice.
Prominent leaders present at the meeting included Madan Lal Chalotra, Chairman OBC Department Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee, Shamsher Bhagat, Vice Chairman SC Department, J&K Congress, and notable personalities such as Surinder Kumar (Retd Xen), Janak Raj Bhagat, Parkash Chand Digra, Balvinder Singh, Shamsher Chand, Naresh Kumar, Ram Lal Sagotra, Bishan Das (Retired SP), P.C. Sagotra, and Neeraj Kumar, among others. The gathering witnessed active participation and meaningful discussions on issues crucial to the SC and OBC communities.
Madan Lal Chalotra, while addressing the meeting, stressed the urgent need for conducting a Caste Census across India and a Caste Survey in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted how this initiative aligns with Rahul Gandhi’s vision and commitment to ensuring justice for all communities. He stated, “A caste census is essential to provide accurate data on the socio-economic conditions of marginalized communities. This will enable targeted policies and programs to uplift them and ensure fair representation in education, employment, and governance.”
Surinder Kumar further remarked that the Congress Party is committed to upholding social justice and fighting for the rights of the underprivileged.
Shamsher Bhagat also stressed, the call for a caste census is a step toward realizing the constitutional promise of equality and empowering the most vulnerable sections of society.
Dewan Chand while addressing the meeting also urged the participants to stand united in their efforts to protect the Constitution and strengthen the party’s mission of inclusivity.
