Mega Cleanliness Drive sets Kathua abuzz with Civic Spirit
KATHUA, OCTOBER 01: In an inspiring display of community unity and a fervent commitment to cleanliness, the District Administration Kathua, led by Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas, orchestrated a Mega cleanliness drive as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign. The drive spanning from Shaheedi Chowk Kathua to Mukherjee Chowk Kathua, covered significant stretches of the district.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from all District and Sectoral Officers of both Civil and Police Administration, who came together with an unwavering dedication and engaged in shramdaan, voluntarily contributing their time and effort to the betterment of their surroundings making Kathua cleaner and greener. The event aimed to instill a sense of civic responsibility and create awareness about the importance of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in line with Mahatma Gandhi’s principles.
The cleanliness drive showcased the remarkable unity of the community as citizens, officials, and volunteers joined hands to clean the heart of Kathua. The Local residents and shop owners also actively participated, reinforcing the idea that a cleaner Kathua is a shared responsibility. The event featured awareness programs on proper waste disposal, sanitation and the significance of a clean environment.
On the Occasion, DC Kathua expressed his gratitude to all participants, saying, “Kathua is not just a place; it’s a community and today, this community has shown its dedication to cleanliness and a healthier future. Let’s carry this spirit forward and make Kathua a shining example of cleanliness for the entire nation.”
The DC further said that Kathua has achieved a significant milestone by being declared an ODF Plus Model. For a village to achieve the status of ODF plus Model, it is required to pass through three stages of ODF Plus namely Aspiring, Rising and Model.
“When a village achieves a condition where it is visually clean with minimal litter and stagnant water, apart from solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) and adequate cleanliness awareness generation activities, it is declared as ODF plus Model,” he said.
This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of the people of Kathua and their visionary leadership. The journey to ODF Plus Model status goes beyond constructing toilets; it signifies a commitment to cleanliness by effectively managing greywater and solid waste. With meticulous planning, community engagement, and awareness campaigns, Kathua has transformed into a beacon of cleanliness and sustainability. This accomplishment not only sets an inspiring example for the region but also reaffirms the community’s dedication to a cleaner, healthier future. Kathua’s success as an ODF Plus Model is a testament to what can be achieved when a community unites for a common goal – a cleaner, greener and more prosperous Kathua.
Earlier, a Swachhta Pledge was also administered among the enthusiastic participants who gathered to contribute to the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign. With utmost dedication and patriotic fervor, they pledged to serve Mother India by keeping our beloved nation neat and clean. Their commitment towards cleanliness echoed as they vowed to devote their time and efforts to ensure a cleaner environment for all. This Swachhta Pledge exemplified the spirit of unity and responsibility, reminding everyone that the journey to a cleaner, greener India is a collective endeavor. It serves as a powerful reminder that each individual can make a difference and play a vital role in the mission to create a cleaner and healthier India for generations to come.
