Mega SVEEP event organised at Tethar, Banihal

RAMBAN, SEPTEMBER 12: As part of the ongoing voter awareness drive, the District Election Office Ramban, under the leadership of District Election Officer Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary, organized a mega SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) event at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Tethar, in the 55-Banihal Assembly Constituency.


The event witnessed a massive turnout of over 1,000 participants, including students, teachers, members of the civil Society, and women voters. District Project Officer ICDS Ramban, Jahangir Hashmi presided over the event, which featured vibrant cultural performances, sports activities, speeches, and skits focused on encouraging electoral participation. A special emphasis was placed on mobilizing women voters for the upcoming Assembly Election.


In his address, Jahangir Hashmi highlighted the objective of the SVEEP initiative, which is to systematically educate voters and enhance their electoral participation. He emphasized the crucial role every vote plays in shaping a stronger democracy. Hashmi urged everyone, especially women, to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming assembly election on September 18, stating that the power of the vote lies in its ability to bring about meaningful change.


The event was further uplifted by a captivating performance from Jeevan Pahari, a renowned Dogri singer from District Ramban, whose melodious songs added to the festive atmosphere of the occasion.


Other prominent speakers included District Nodal Officer SVEEP (CEO), Ramban, Bikram Singh; Nodal Officer SVEEP 55-AC Banihal; Nodal Officer Women Awareness 55-Banihal; Principal of GHSS Tethar; and Nodal Officer SVEEP 54-AC Ramban. Each speaker emphasized the significance of active voter participation, particularly in the upcoming Assembly Election, as a means of strengthening democratic values. The speakers also stressed the need for women voters to come forward in large numbers to cast their votes.


Meanwhile as part of the SVEEP campaign, artists from the Sangam Theater Group Reasi, who are empanelled with the SVEEP initiative, also performed a “Nukkad Natak” (street play) at a marketplace in Gool, 55-AC Banihal. The play was witnessed by a large gathering and successfully raised awareness about the importance of voter participation in the upcoming Assembly Election 2024.
