MIER College hosts career guidance programme on NET/JRF exams

Jammu, March 25: The Placement Committee of MIER College of Education, in collaboration with the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), organized an orientation programme titled “Career in Higher Education with Special Focus on NET/JRF Examination” under the “College to Career Programme” at Sh. H.L. Gupta Auditorium here today.

The session was held for students of School of Education from Semester IV and M.A. Political Science Semester IV. The programme was aimed to provide crucial insights, vital information and regarding NET/SET exams, including exam patterns, syllabi, preparation strategies, and key dates.

Mrs. Jyoti Sharma, Convener of the Placement Committee, delivered the welcome address and introduced the resource person, Dr. Vivek Sharma, an Associate Professor, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu.

Dr. Sharma, a PhD and MBA (NET/JRF) holder with over 19 years of teaching and research experience, has actively worked with marginalized and socio-economically disadvantaged groups through his role as Coordinator for Competitive Exam Coaching for SC/ST/OBC/Minorities.

During his address, Dr. Sharma highlighted the importance of NET/SET exams in securing academic and research careers, emphasizing UGC guidelines and eligibility criteria.

The key points covered included the eligibility criteria, examination scheme, and the latest UGC regulations for 2025. Additionally, the discussion addressed reservations, the pattern of examination and syllabus, the application process, and fee structure for NET/SET/JRF Examinations. Importantly, the resource person outlined various career paths available in higher education, underscoring how qualifying for NET/JRF can enhance opportunities in academia and research. He emphasized how qualifying the NET/JRF has become essential in the wake of the New Education Policy.

The session saw active participation of over 80 students. It concluded with an engaging Question and Answer session, where students sought clarity on various aspects of the exams and career pathways.

Dr. Sahil Bhagat, member of the Placement Committee, delivered the formal vote of thanks, while Ms. Anshu Rakwal, student representative of the committee, compered the event.

The Placement Committee reaffirmed its commitment to guiding and supporting students on their journey from college to professional careers.
