MIET School of Law, FICCI FLO JKL & DLSA Host a Seminar on PoSH Act
Jammu, July 25, 2024: The MIET School of Law & FICCI FLO JKL, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), hosted an enlightening seminar on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) at the Workplace. The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, advocates, and representatives from the District Legal Services Authority, as well as members from FICCI FLO JKL.
Hon’ble Ms. Bala Jyoti, Special Judge Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases) Jammu & Chairperson of the Gender Sensitization Internal Complaints Committee-1, was the Chief Guest. Ms. Ruchika Gupta, Chairperson of FICCI FLO JKL and Joint Director MIET, along with Ms. Varuna Anand, Immediate Past Chair FICCI FLO JKL, and other core team members, were also present to grace the occasion.
Ms. Ruchika Gupta, Chairperson FICCI FLO JKL Chapter and Joint Director MIET welcomed the dignitaries, guests and students. She reiterated MIET’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and supporting environment for women, since women comprise 60% of MIET’s workforce. She felt that it is incumbent upon all organizations big and small to comply with the provisions under the PoSH Act in letter and spirit, allowing women to freely express themselves and contribute effectively in nation building, attaining the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Ms. Deepali Arora, Advocate at J&K High Court and Member of DLSA delivered an impactful presentation on “Women’s Empowerment and Safety in Educational Institutions,” providing valuable insights and perspective on the subject. The seminar continued with a special address by Ms. Uma Kapahi, Advocate at J&K High Court, President of the Human Rights Council of J&K, and Member of DLSA, who shared her expertise and emphasized the importance of safeguarding women’s rights in the workplace. Prof. Sunita Zalpuri, Dean, MIET School of Law, also shared her insights on the PoSH Act and presented points on the legal attributes and framework of the Act. Her presentation further enriched the seminar by highlighting the critical aspects of the PoSH Act and its practical application in educational and professional environments.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Ms. Bala Jyoti, in her presidential address provided an in-depth analysis of the modernization of the legal framework and its role in addressing contemporary challenges in India’s criminal justice system. She emphasized the integration of technology and the need for policy reforms to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and fairness of the system. Ms. Jyoti also offered profound insights into the legal framework surrounding the PoSH Act, discussing significant judgments and guidelines, including the landmark ‘Vishakha’ case. She interacted with students, offering a comprehensive understanding of the Act’s implications and enforcement.
The seminar was a significant step towards raising awareness about the PoSH Act and empowering individuals to create a safer and more respectful workplace environment. It provided an excellent platform for legal professionals, advocates, and students to engage in meaningful discussions and gain valuable insights from the experts.
