Mission Shakti Jammu hosts awareness event on PCPNDT ACT at Bishnah

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 11: Reinforcing its commitment to women’s empowerment and social justice, Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW Social Welfare Department Jammu on Tuesday organized a high-impact awareness programme on the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act at the Anganwadi Centre in Bishnah.  The event formed part of a BBBP campaign meant to promote women’s rights and gender equality.

The session, led by legal expert Advocate Meenu Padha, provided a deep insight into the  provisions of the PCPNDT Act, emphasizing its strict measures against the misuse of ultrasound technique for sex determination. She elaborated on the stringent regulations for diagnostic centers and the severe penalties for violations, driving home the critical message of preventing female foeticide.

Beyond legal awareness, Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW Jammu seized the opportunity to educate women about an extensive range of welfare schemes dedicated to their uplift. The participants were enlightened about flagship initiatives such as State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS), Ladli Beti, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Old Age Pension, Widow and Disability Pensions, PMEGP, Tejaswini, and various skill development programs offered by RSETI and other training institutes.

The event was graced by key dignitaries, including District Mission Coordinator Shagun Manchanda, Sunil Kumar Specialist in Financial Literacy who reiterated Mission Shakti’s unwavering commitment to empowering women at every level.

To further support and encourage maternal health, Mission Shakti SANKALP HEW Jammu distributed nutritional kits to pregnant women in the area, ensuring that both mother and child receive the necessary care for a healthy future.
