Mission Youth: 3-day training programme on drug abuse begins at Ramban

RAMBAN, March 17:  Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam inaugurated a three-day training programme on early detection of drug abuse and post-detection management at Conference Hall Maitra, Ramban. The programme was part of the ongoing Revitalisation of Youth Clubs under Mission Youth.

The Capacity Building Programme trained Youth Club Volunteers, ASHA and Anganwadi Workers on tackling drug abuse, early detection of addiction, counselling youth and de-addiction. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kamal Zadu, BMO Ukhral, Dr Mohd Iqbal, counsellors and psychologists delivered lectures with Power Point Presentations and interacted with trainees on the occasion.

The Social Welfare Department Ramban organised the programme under District Social Welfare Officer Rahul Gupta’s supervision by involving Education, Health and other departments. DSWO presented a welcome address highlighting issues associated with drug abuse in Assistant Director Employment & Counselling Centre, Dr Sushant Mahajan’s presence.

Experts spoke on physical or psychological signs of early detection; steps to prevent drug misuse in children and teenagers; types of drug abuse rehabilitations. Deputy Commissioner stated that drug abuse affects individuals, families and communities. He emphasised tackling it from multiple perspectives including deterrence, treatment and enforcement. The District Administration Ramban is committed to creating a drug-free environment in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of creating awareness and spreading knowledge to prevent drug abuse and promote sustainable livelihood. He added that the government is committed to supporting them under Mission Youth Programme. He appreciated collaborating departments’ efforts and said training sessions’ experience will help work more effectively in curbing this menace.
