Mizoram: ZPM meeting to decide on claiming stake to form government
Aizawl, Dec 4 (PTI) Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) will hold a meeting of its newly elected MLAs to decide on claiming a stake in government formation in Mizoram, a senior leader said.
ZPM leader Lalduhoma, who was in Serchhip, was on Monday afternoon travelling to Aizawl to meet the newly elected MLAs of the party, he said.
“A meeting of newly elected MLAs and Val Upa Council, the decision-making body of the party, will be held most likely on Tuesday to decide on claiming stake to form the government in Mizoram,” ZPM working president K Sapdanga told PTI.
The opposition party was racing towards power in Mizoram, having already won 26 seats and leading in another as votes were being counted for assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has won seven seats and is leading in three others, but several of its senior leaders were either trailing or have already lost.
Sapdanga said the party’s victory was attributed to people’s desire for a new system of governance promised by ZPM.
