MLA Banihal Throws Open Single Stretch of Banihal Bypass Flyover 

Demands Naming of Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel as Dr. Manmohan Singh Tunnel and Banihal Bypass flyover bridge as Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge

Banihal, 5th January: National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Banihal, Mr. Sajjad Shaheen, today inaugurated the single stretch of the Banihal Bypass Flyover, marking a significant milestone in easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity on the JK National Highway.

The MLA highlighted the importance of the project, calling it a landmark development for road commuters, including passengers, tourists, and especially the residents of Banihal. The flyover is expected to decongest the town significantly, reduce travel times, and contribute to the region’s economic growth.

“This project, initiated under the leadership of late Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh during the  National Conference-led government headed by then Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah in 2010, and later carried forward by the present regime under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects a shared commitment to progress and development,” the MLA remarked.

Expressing gratitude to the National Highways Authority of India (NHIA), project management, engineers, and field staff for their hard work, the MLA commended their dedication and efficiency in completing the project.

The MLA proposed naming the Banihal-Qazigund Tunnel as Dr. Manmohan Singh Tunnel to honor the former Prime Minister’s visionary leadership in advancing infrastructure development. He further suggested naming the Banihal Bypass Bridge as Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge to commemorate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s pivotal contributions to Jammu and Kashmir’s history and progress.

“These names will serve as lasting tributes to two leaders whose legacies have profoundly impacted the development of our nation,” Mr. Shaheen stated.
