Motivation cum awareness lecturer on blood donation held at GCW Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, JUNE 14: To mark the World Blood Donor Day, 2023, an online motivation cum awareness lecture on the theme “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often” and a pledge ceremony was organized in Government College for Women Udhampur by Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit in collaboration with J&K AIDS control Society under Mission Life, G20 and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The events were conducted under the guidance of the college Principal, Prof. Anjali Mahajan and under the convenorship of Dr. Kewal Kumar (Convenor RRC) and Prof. Sumita Rao (NSS PO) to thank individuals who donated blood to encourage more people to become new donors and to be aware about the importance of blood donation.
Dr. Dinesh Kumar (PTI) was the resource person on the occasion who delivered a mind storming, informative and inspiring lecture on blood donation on the theme “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often”. The lecture was attended by about 42 students including staff of the college.
Explaining the importance of blood donation, he said the despite remarkable advancement in medical science there is no laboratory that manufactures blood. He also motivated the staff and students to donate blood as they themselves might be using the same during their own emergency needs.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Prof. Anjali Mahajan congratulated and appreciated the efforts of oragnisers. She stated that such awareness lectures are need of hour in educational institutions and will go a long way in spreading the message of blood donation to general masses.
In the afternoon, a pledge ceremony was organised where students and staff of the college pledged to create awareness among their family members, friends, relatives, colleagues and public about the need of regular voluntary blood donation.
They also pledged that they will always donate blood to the needy irrespective of caste and religion.
About 55 students participated in pledge ceremony. The event was graced by the presence of Prof Ashni Devi, HOD Botany, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Prof Roopa Kumari, Assistant Prof. of Education, Prof. Pooja Bharti, Assistant Professor of Geography and Mr. Balbir Singh from Department of Geography.
