MP Congress protests against SEBI’s “irregularities” in Bhopal
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], August 22 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress on Thursday staged a protest against alleged irregularities in the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at Vyapam Square in the state capital Bhopal.
The demonstration was staged under the leadership of AICC in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Jitendra Singh, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar. Several other senior Congress leaders were also present on the occasion.
During the protest, the Congress leaders were heading towards the ED (Enforcement Directorate) office to submit a memorandum but they were stopped at the Board office square in the city. The Congress workers tried to cross the barricades, following which the police used water cannon to control the crowd.
AICC in-charge Singh said, “This government is scared and it is a timid government. Why is the government not investigating it (SEBI’s irregularity) by ED or CBI? Is the ED and CBI only for opposition? The Congress party would keep protesting across the country until the JPC (Joint Parliamentary Committee) is constituted.”
The JPC is an ad-hoc committee, formed by the Indian Parliament to conduct a thorough examination of a specific bill or investigate something like financial irregularities. The committee is made up of members from both houses of Parliament, as well as from the ruling and opposition parties.
Congress Chief Patwari said, “PM Narendra Modi had said he would neither eat (referring to corruption) nor let only anyone do so. But he gave posts to corrupt people. The rich become richer and poor people of the country get poorer. What type of country have you made? Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been exposed. PM Modi, who called himself honest, is the most corrupt PM of the country till date.”
“We were going to the ED office according to the law. We will take decisions whatever the administration suggests. If officials take our memorandum here then we will give it here otherwise we will go to the ED office,” the Congress leader said.
Ahead of the protest, Patwari told ANI, “There are many examples of how the government of the country gets corruption done through the government machinery and how it helps its friends. The ED team has never seen who are the corrupt people in BJP. In the last 10 years, ED has not seen even a single person from BJP doing corruption.”
“But the Bharatiya Janata Party and Narendra Modi are not noticing. Narendra Modi ji, there is a fight against corruption. If BJP people commit corruption, they are exempted and if someone else commits a mistake, then the law will do its job. The question is why do you have this partiality” the congress leader asked.
