National Conference on Promotion of Entrepreneurship in Medicinal Plants inaugurated at CUJ

24th Aug 2023: A two-day national conference “Academia-Industry Interface for Promoting Entrepreneurship in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants” organised by Department of Botany was inaugurated today at Central University of Jammu. Addressing more than 100 scholars, students, academicians and farmers.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, vice Chancellor Central university of Jammu congratulated the Head, Prof. B. S. Bhau and his team on connecting plant sciences with entrepreneurship. He emphasized the need for bringing the culture of interdisciplinary education to academic institutions. He also promised to invite various industries to CUJ for creating employment opportunities. Prof. Manoj Dhar, Director, Academy of Scientific and Innovative was the Chief Guest and Dr. Mohan Singh, Director, Directorate of AYUSH, J&K, Smt. Indu Kanwal Chib, Managing Director, Rural Livelihood Mission, J&K and Dr. A. A. Mao, Director, Botanical Survey of India, GoI were the Guests of Honour. 

Prof. Manoj Dhar applauded the efforts of the entire team. He said that Central University of Jammu is witnessing an unprecedented development in academics and pressed on the need of implementation of artificial intelligence in the field of medicinal plant research.

Smt. Indu Kanwal Chib congratulated the faculty members and shared insights on the theme of the conference while focusing on women in entrepreneurship roles in the making of a new India. She also mentioned the role of women of Doda, district of Jammu and Kashmir, in the promotion of the purple revolution.

Dr. Mohan Singh, while congratulating the Department of Botany on this great initiative, expressed the need of a yoga centre in the University campus and assured that his department will work in coordination to bring desired results for the participants. 

While emphasizing the mega biodiversity of India, Dr. A. A. Mao, introduced the gathering to the word ‘bio-economy.’ He also stressed on the need of a sustainable utilisation of bio-resources for the smooth growth of the Indian economy.   

All the experts highlighted the main aim and objectives of the conference and appreciated that it would provide a platform to farmers, young researchers, and accomplished scientists to interact with each other and help develop a keep learning temperament in the youth while helping in exchanging information on the latest developments in medicinal plant research as well as agriculture.

The conference was fully sponsored by National Medicinal Plant Board, Department of AYUSH, GoI.Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Dharam Chand, Organising Secretary, PEMAP 2023, Department of Botany, Central University of Jammu.
