National Conference pays glorious tribute to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdullah on his 118th birth anniversary

JAMMU, Dec 5: J&K National Conference today paid floral tributes to Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah on his 118th birth anniversary during a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu.
On the occasion, Ajay Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary of JKNC, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President, Surinder Chourdhary Central Secretary, Abdul Gani Malik former minister and Zonal President Udhampur Reasi, Bimla Luthra, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Satwant Dogra and other party workers paid tributes to the Baba-e-Qoum, Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah. The homage giving function started with Quran Khwani which was organized by G.H Malik Senior leader.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajay Sadhotra said sustaining secular ethos is the best and befitting tribute to Sheikh Sahib, a towering among tallest of leaders of his times in the sub-continent. “We are proud inheritors of this legacy,” he said, while recalling the landmark and pioneering Land Reforms Act, which empowered the farmers by making them masters of their own destiny overnight.
In the face of misrule and injustice, the former minister asserted that the National Conference stands as a beacon of hope for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, the National Conference has consistently strived to safeguard the rights and aspirations of the people, unwavering in its commitment to restore dignity, integrity, and fundamental rights, he added.
Rattan Lal Gupta, in his address, discussed various aspects of Sheikh Abdullah’s life and highlighted his contribution to improve the conditions for the weak and the downtrodden sections of society. He added that Sheikh Abdullah’s secular and progressive outlook will continue to be a source of inspiration for generations.
Throughout his charismatic political career, Sheikh Abdullah symbolised the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in a manner no other individual could even dream of, Gupta said.
The best tribute to Sheikh Abdullah will be to strengthen the amity among the Hindus, Muslims and the Sikhs, Gupta said. He also urged the party cadre to take a pledge to uphold and preserve the legacy of brotherhood and communal harmony bequeathed by Sheikh Abdullah.
Surinder Choudhary Central Secretary paid floral tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and pledged to work for steering Jammu and Kashmir as peaceful, progressive and a politically stable part of the country by strengthening JKNC and its leadership.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed said that National Conference is a secular party and only it will fulfill the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen the hands of Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah for the equitable development and brighter future of Jammu and Kashmir.
While paying homage to the legendary leader, Abdul Gani Malik Zonal President Udhampur Reasi threw light on various facets of Sher-e-Kashmir’s life and recalled his sacrifice and contribution to ameliorate the lot of people, especially those belonging to weaker and down-trodden segments of society.
Bimla Luthra, in her address, stated that the Party has always been at the forefront of the struggle for gender equality, and it remains committed to ensuring that women in Jammu and Kashmir are empowered in every way possible. “Women are an integral part of our society, and it is our duty to empower them in every sphere – be it education, politics, or the economy,” he said.
She emphasized that women’s empowerment is not just a political slogan but a core principle of the NC’s ideology. She added that women have a pivotal role to play in democracy as well as in shaping the future of the state.

Meanwhile, rich tributes were paid to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah across the Jammu province. Various functions were organized to commemorate his legacy and honor his contributions to the state.
In Kishtwar, a similar program was held under the chairmanship of District President Tanvir Kichloo; in Doda, a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of Provincial Vice President Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardi; in Banihal / Ramban, a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of District President Sajjad Saheen ; in Udhampur a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of District President Sunil Verma; in Poonch, a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of Ajaz Jan Provincial President JKNC Youth; in Rajouri, a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of District President Shafayat Khan and DDC Chairperson Liaquat Ali; In Kalakote, a similar programme was organized under the chairmanship of District President Ashok Sharma and Yashu Vardhan Singh; similar programmes were also organized by the District Committee members at Reasi, Kathua and Billwar respectively to pay homage to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
