National Girl Child Day celebrated at Ramban
Chairperson DDC felicitates women achievers
RAMBAN, JANUARY 24: Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with District Administration Ramban, celebrated the National Girls Child Day (NGCD) here today.
A program was organised to spread awareness about the importance of girl education and motivate the people to provide equal opportunity to girls at home and at their workplace.
The National Girl Child Day was celebrated across the district by Government institutions, besides other organizations.
Chairperson, District Development Council, Ramban, Dr. Shamshad Shan inaugurated a mega event as a part of week-long celebration. A variety of activities which include motivational lectures, cultural programmes, recitation of poems and informative events on the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ were also presented by the girls of different schools.
On the occasion, the DDC Chairperson also participated in a plantation drive organised by the Social Forestry Division Ramban under the supervision of DFO Mahesh Thakur. The drive was organised as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on the theme “Save Forest, Save Environment, Save life”.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Rajinder Sharma; Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal Sharma; CMO, Dr Kamal Zadoo; CEO, Devanand; DSWO, Rahul Gupta; CDPO, Ravinder Kour and others attended the function.
Highlighting the significance of the day, the Chairperson informed that NGCD is being celebrated to spread awareness among people about the inequalities faced by girls in the society. The day promotes awareness about the rights of a girl child and increases awareness on the importance of girl education, health, and nutrition etc. “We cannot imagine a society without women and it is the social responsibility of every citizen to come forward for protection and upliftment of women folk”, she maintained.
The ADDC, ADC and other speakers also elaborated the different extant rules and laws which provide equal rights to women, besides highlighting the women centric programmes launched by the Government.
The Chairpersons along with other dignitaries also felicitated several women and girl achievers with appreciation certificates and prizes for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields.
