National Thang-Ta championship kicks off in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 3: The 29th Junior National Thang-Ta Championship 2023 kicked off at the Multipurpose Indoor Hall, Polo Ground Srinagar here today. The event is sponsored by the J&K Sports Council and organized by the J&K Thang-Ta Association under the supervision of the Thang-Ta Federation of India.
Around 530 participants fielded in 25 teams from different parts of the country are participating in the event being played over three days.
Secretary Youth Service and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez presided over the opening ceremony as the chief guest while Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gull was the guest of honour. The senior officers were flanked by H. Prem Kumar Singh, Grand Master of the World Thang-Ta Federation; and Vinod Sharma, Secretary of the Thang-Ta Federation of India along with other distinguished guests from other parts of the country and union territory.
While speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez said that this event is an extension of the policy wherein J&K pitched for bringing more and more national and international events to the union territory, and for this event, J&K Sports Council collaborated with the J&K Thang-Ta Association and Thang-Ta Federation of India.
Lauding the efforts of the Sports Council in hosting this remarkable event which is aimed at recognizing the Thang-Ta potential of J&K and boosting the morale of local athletes besides encouraging their participation in both national and international competitions. Sarmad Hafeez emphasized the importance of such events in nurturing talent.
While speaking on the occasion, Sarmad Hafeez said that the administration has always been at the forefront in providing a platform to youth and supporting them to follow their goals by organizing different events across J&K.
The Secretary Sports Council Nuzhat Gull expressed her admiration for athletes, highlighting their ability to inspire others with their passion for the game. Gull also said that athletes not only showcase their exceptional talents but also motivate others to pursue their dreams and passions. She said that the championship promises to be a platform where emerging talent in Thang-Ta can shine. “Such events provide the best opportunity for the youth from across the country to interact with each other and know about varied cultures,” Nuzhat Gull concluded.
Meanwhile, the J&K Sports Council has also constituted a committee headed by the Divisional Sports Officer (K) to monitor the event and register all the participants.
