National Voters Day celebrated at GDC Khansahib

BUDGAM, January 25: The 14th National Voters Day was Thursday celebrated at Government Degree College (GDC) Khansahib with much fanfare.

The program began with an inaugural address by Dr. Nagris Bano, Principal of the institution. She highlighted the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness about healthy democratic practices.

Dr. Naheed Shafi, HOD English and convener of Debates-Seminar Committee administered oath to the participants.

Dr Sajad Padder, NSS Programme Officer and HOD Political Science spoke on the “Role of Election Commission in Ensuring Free and Fair Elections in India.”

Apart from dwelling on the organizational structure & role of the commission vis-à-vis elections, he also talked about the need for further rigorous reforms in order to effectively tackle issues of money power, casteism and crime in politics.

The program was attended by faculty members, NSS volunteers and other students. A question-answer session was also conducted at the end of the program.
