NIT Srinagar celebrates 78th Independence Day, Dir unfurls tricolor

Special buses were facilitated for transportation of employees to Bakhshi Stadium

Srinagar, Aug 15: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Thursday, where Director Prof. A. Ravinder Nath who presided over the function unfurled tricolor on the campus.

The event was attended by the Institute’s Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman, Deans, HODs, faculty members, administrative officers, and security wing staff. It was followed by a grand parade by the security wing of the institute, where the Director took a salute from the Parade Commander and inspected parade contingents.

The event was held under the leadership of Dean Students Welfare, Prof. Abdul Liman, whereas Dr Janani L, and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran were the Nodal Officers of the Independence Day Celebrations.

Addressing the gathering, Director NIT, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath acknowledged the contributions of our great leaders, who, through their sacrifices and vision, paved the way for a free and independent India.

” Today, we pay tribute to those who sacrificed for our freedom and helped shape our nation’s future. At NIT Srinagar, our mission goes beyond academic excellence; we are committed to instilling in our students the values that will guide them to become responsible and compassionate citizens,” he said.

 Prof. A. Ravinder Nath said that Government of India’s commitment to achieving a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047 entails a comprehensive strategy that emphasizes sustainable economic growth, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability.

He also laid importance to renewing our commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and making meaningful contributions to society on this significant day.

“The NIT community is dedicated to empowering the nation through the pursuit of new knowledge and innovation,” he said.

Prof. A Ravinder Nath expressed his gratitude to everyone for attending and participating in the ceremony, with special thanks to the security personnel for their efforts and involvement.

On the occasion, the Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman, paid tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the nation’s freedom.

“As we celebrate this historic day, let us reflect on the values of democracy, justice, and equality that our freedom fighters championed,” he said, adding that there is crucial role that educational institutions like NIT Srinagar play in shaping the future of the nation.

Prof. Rahman urged everyone to use this day as an opportunity to reflect on the core values that guide our nation and to reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, more united India.

He also expressed deep appreciation for the Deans, Department Heads, faculty, and staff, whose dedication plays a vital role in the institution’s academic and overall development.

Following the event, both faculty and non-faculty members participated in the Republic Day festivities at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha unfurled the tricolour.

The Institute had deployed special buses to facilitate the transportation of its employees, students to the Bakshi Stadium and back.
