Nomination filing for MP assembly elections, second phase of Chhattisgarh polls begins

New Delhi [India], October 21 (ANI): The filing of nominations for the Madhya Pradesh assembly elections and for the second phase of Chhattisgarh assembly polls started on Saturday.

“Filing of nominations for single-phase assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and for 2nd phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh will begin this morning,” a Spokesperson for the Election Commission of India (ECI) posted on X earlier in the day.

The last date for the nominations in Madhya Pradesh for all 230 constituencies and in Chhattisgarh for 70 out of a total of 90 constituencies will be on October 30.

The Election Commission has announced that the first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh will be held on November 7, with the remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh going to polls on November 17.

The election dates are as follows: Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30.

The counting of votes will take place on December 3 in all the states. Of the five states, polling in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates. These elections are crucial as they are taking place months before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May next year.

Earlier the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting took place at the party headquarters in the national capital to finalise candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections and remaining candidates for Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party’s national president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other members of the committee were present in the meeting.

Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also arrived to attend the meeting.
