Notorious gangster Deepak ‘Boxer’ held in Mexico: Delhi Police
New Delhi, April 4 (PTI) The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested one of the most wanted gangsters of the national capital, Deepak “Boxer”, from Mexico with the help of the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), officials said on Tuesday.
A senior police officer told PTI that a Special Cell team is currently in Mexico and it has nabbed the gangster.
Deepak will be brought to India within two days, after which the Special Cell chief will formally hold a press conference and share the details of the arrest, the officials said.
Deepak headed the Gogi gang after the killing of gangster Jitendra Mann alias Gogi in the Rohini court complex here. Gogi was shot dead by two assailants on September 24, 2021. His assailants were also killed in retaliatory fire by police.
Deepak was wanted in connection with the killing of builder Amit Gupta, who was shot at several times in his left leg and abdomen on August 23 last year in north Delhi’s Burari. Ankit Gulia, a sharpshooter of the Gogi-Deepak “Boxer” gang, allegedly killed Gupta.
Deepak had claimed the responsibility for Gupta’s killing on Facebook, saying the builder was killed due to his proximity with the Tillu gang. They suspected that Gupta had passed on information to police about Kuldeep alias Fazza, who was killed in an encounter in 2021.
According to police, Deepak used a fake passport to flee the country. He took a flight to Mexico from Kolkata using the alias Ravi Antil. Police had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh on information leading to Deepak’s arrest.
Deepak came to limelight when he freed Gogi from police custody in Haryana seven years ago. He was also involved in attacking police personnel at the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital here two years ago and helped Fajja flee from police custody.
Fajja, a wanted criminal, was killed on March 28, 2021 following an exchange of fire with a Special Cell team at a flat in the Rohini area. Fajja had escaped from custody on March 25 after a gunfight broke out at a government hospital here.
