NSF celebrates birth anniversary of Shaheed Sukhdev
JAMMU:15-05-24: National Secular Forum (NSF), University Unit organized a programmed in Jammu University, and on the Birth anniversary of Shaheed Sukhdev who laid his life for the country. On the occasion, NSF activists raised slogans “Sukhdev Amar Raha’ “Inqulaab Zindabad” ‘Bharat Mata ki jai”, and they paid tributes to shaheed Sukhdev and garlanded the portraits of the son of soil.
Ankush Abrol, Jammu Provincial Joint Secretary, JKNC was the Chief Guest while Dr. Vikas Sharma Coordinator Jammu District (Urban) and Zonal Secretary JKNC presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion Ankush Abrol appreciated the initiative taken by the NSF member to remember the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.
He also said that Sukhdev Thapar was an Indian freedom fighter who fought against the British government for the freedom of India. He was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). He was executed along with Shivaram, Rajguru and Bhagat Singh on 23 March 1931. Sukhdev Thapar was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, British Raj on 15 May 1907 to Ramlal Thapar and Ralli Devi. He belonged to a Punjabi Khatri family of the Hindu community and he was brought up by his uncle Lala Achintram after the death of his father.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Vikas Sharma said that the real tributes to the martyrs would be eradicating evils prevailing in the society like drug addiction. He exhorted the youth to refrain from drugs and intoxicants.
Dr. Vikas Sharma recalled the planning capability, boldness and feeling of nationalism in martyr Sukhdev and stressed upon the youth to follow his ideas. He also stressed upon the youth to shun their self centered outlook and contribute in the development of the nation.
