NSS Annual Winter Special Camp concludes at GCW Udhampur
UDHAMPUR JANUARY 11: NSS Units of Government College for Women Udhampur today, concluded 7- Days Annual Winter Special Camp on the theme Viksit Yuva Viksit Bharat under the aegis of Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat@ 2047.
The programme was presided by Prof Anjali Mahajan, Principal of the college. In her message, she appreciated the efforts of NSS wing of GCW Udhampur for organising such type of programmes to inculcate amongst the students a sense of community engagement, besides their academic development. She also motivated the students for Swachhta-hi-Sewa and other flagship programmes of NSS (in the campus and adopted village) as tool for national building.
She also elaborated the inception of NSS as a movement in mid 20th century as a youth participation in nation building via National Service; the then need of the hour to raise such an organisation for the cause of nation which engages the youth in social development and also appealed to the NSS Volunteers to take the idea of Viksit Bharat to grassroot level and ignite the same from elementary strata of the country so as to shape it to a movement.
Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, NSS Programme officer, in his welcome address talked about the values of National Service Scheme amongst the volunteers. He also highlighted the ideology of Swami Vivekananda and appealed the volunteers to follow his teachings and way of life.
During the weeklong programme resource persons of different arenas were Dr. Pankaj Sharma, Advocate Harsh Tharmatt, Mustafa Ali, yoga instructor Sunil Bogale and ex- Sarpanch of Rathian Village Sh. Deewan Chand. All of them interacted with the NSS Volunteers on the topics of their expertise. Besides, the cleanliness drives were carried on each day within the campus and in the adopted village – Rathian.
NSS Volunteers on Day 4 cleaned the main Spring (Bowli) of village Rathian which was appreciated by the locals and by the Sarpanch. The Sarpanch in his little talk applauded the girls and felt gratitude for the same. Besides, interactive talks cultural and literary activities were also performed by the volunteers including skit, folk dance, folk songs, debates and discussions.
Earlier, the programme began with the floral welcome of the chief guest Prof Anjali Mahajan, Principal of the college with the lighting of traditional lamp.
The programme was also enriched by the volunteers by reciting NSS and patriotic songs. Amongst other who graced the occasion were Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof. Indu Khajuria, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Prof. Yash Kumar and Prof. Om Parkash. The programme ended up with the formal vote of thanks by Prof. Shama Rani.
