Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik rewards Kishore Jena for exceptional performance at World Athletics Championship

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], August 28 (ANI): While the nation celebrated Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal win at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recognised the efforts of a lesser-known athlete from his state. 

Kishore Jena, Odisha’s javelin star, became the first from the state to represent India at the Finals of the World Athletics Championship in Budapest and achieved a commendable fifth-place finish. Jena finished fifth in the championship final with a throw of 84.77 metres. This was also Jena’s personal best throw.

This was the first time three Indian athletes had made it to the final of a track and field event at the World Championship, apart from Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena, DP Manu had also made it to the final of the men’s javellin.

In recognition of his achievement, Patnaik announced a reward of Rs 25 lakh for Kishore Jena, according to a press release by the Chief Minister’s office. 

“Kishore showcased remarkable prowess in javelin throwing, achieving a commendable fifth-place finish. He achieved a new personal best with a throw covering a distance of 84.77 metres, highlighting his exceptional performance on the global stage,” the release read. 

Kishore’s participation is a remarkable feat for the athlete and a historic achievement in the sports history of Odisha, it added. 

Commending the indomitable spirit of Kishore Jena, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, “Kishore Jena’s remarkable journey and exceptional performance at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest have not only brought glory to our state and nation but also inspired many athletes for years to come”. 

“The World Athletics Championship is a prestigious global event that brings together the finest athletes from around the world, to compete in various track and field disciplines. Kishore Jena’s participation in this championship not only represents a personal achievement but also showcases the sportsmanship and talent that Odisha has to offer the world,” read the press release.
