One more dead in MP wedding procession accident; toll rises to six
Raisen, Mar 12 (PTI) One more person injured in the accident during a wedding procession died in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district, police said on Tuesday.
With this, the death toll in the accident has risen to six and 11 injured persons are undergoing treatment in hospitals, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Shahwal said.
A truck allegedly overtaking from the wrong side ploughed into a wedding procession in the Sultanpur area of the district on Monday night, he said.
The procession had arrived at Khamaria Ghat from Anchalkheda village of Narmadapuram district, he said.
Five persons, including the groom’s minor brother and labourers carrying lights, were killed on the spot and 25 others were injured, the official said.
The truck initially hit the horse, which the groom, Vishram Singh Ahirwar (26), was riding, and one of his hands got crushed under the truck’s tyre, he said.
The driver and cleaner of the truck managed to flee the scene after the accident, and a search has been launched for them, the official said.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced an assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased persons and Rs 50,000 each to the injured, Raisen Collector Arvind Dubey had said.
