One Week Faculty Development Program on Data Analytics Through SPSS Organized by the Department of Statistics Concludes at Jammu University
JAMMU, March 17: The Department of Statistics at the University of Jammu successfully organized a one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Data Analytics through SPSS from March 13-17, 2023. The event was a great success, with 50 faculty members from various institutions across the country participating in the workshop. The workshop was sponsored by RUSA – II and held in collaboration with HRDC, University of Jammu, Jammu.
The valedictory function of the FDP was held on the final day of the workshop, and Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Director DD&OE ,University of Jammu and former director of IIM, Sirmour, was the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of data analytics and its applications in various fields. She also appreciated the efforts of the department and organizers in conducting such an informative workshop. While sharing her own experience, Prof Neelu asked the participants to plan and dream big and put in hard efforts to realize them.
Prof Parmil Kumar, Head of the department and convenor of the workshop, shared his views on the event and highlighted the need for more such workshops to enhance the research skills of faculty members.
The workshop provided an excellent opportunity for faculty members to learn new skills and techniques in data analytics through SPSS. The participants gained practical experience in using the software, which would help them in their research and teaching activities. The event was well-received by the participants, who appreciated the efforts of the department and organizers in organizing such a valuable workshop.
Dr. V K Shivgotra presented the workshop report, highlighting the various topics covered and the practical experience gained by the participants. He added that the resource person Prof Suresh Sharma from Panjab University, Chandigarh gave lectures and hands-on Data Screening, Missing Value analysis and Introduction to SPSS, Type of variables and data sheet preparation. Prof G P Singh from the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, Varanasi delivered a lecture on Assumptions and hands-on SPSS and make the participants learnt how they can be applied in research.
Dr Susheel Sarkaar from IASRI, Delhi shared his expertise on the use of SPSS software for data analysis of Design of Experiments related research, while Dr Mukender Kadyan, KU Kurukshetra, shared his insights on how to use data analytics to establish the relationship between different attributes. Dr Sunil Kumar from Department of Statistics, University of Jammu shared his expertise on PCA and Factor Analysis followed by hands-on SPSS.
During the function participants which shared their feedback were were overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to enhance their skills in data analytics through SPSS.
Dr. Sunil Kumar proposed the vote of thanks, expressing his gratitude to the chief guest, organizers, and participants for their contributions in making the workshop a success. He also thanked the sponsors, RUSA, and collaborators, HRDC, University of Jammu, Jammu, for their support in organizing the event.
Ms. Ableen Kaur, a PhD scholar of the department, anchored the program, keeping the audience engaged throughout the event. The valedictory function was a fitting conclusion to an informative and interactive workshop, which provided a valuable platform for faculty members to enhance their research and teaching skills in the field of data analytics through SPSS.
Overall, the workshop was a great success, and participants were grateful to these esteemed speakers for sharing their knowledge and expertise with them. They are hopeful to apply the learnings from this workshop in their future research endeavors.
