Opposition leaders hit out at BJP MP Anurag Thakur for his remarks on Rahul Gandhi
Delhi [India], July 31 (ANI): Opposition leaders slammed BJP MP Anurag Thakur over his remarks on the leader of the opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament and said that he should learn manners.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Anurag Thakur’s statement is condemnable, adding that these are the people who want to mould the country in a way that would be politically convenient for them.
She said, “The country needs us to rise above religion and caste and serve the nation, serve Bharat Mata. Our caste is to serve the nation and our religion is to take Bharat Mata ahead. These are people who want to mould the country in a way that would be politically convenient for them…What he said is condemnable, I hope his leaders make him apologise.”
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury said, “This is the nature of Thakur ji. You can understand his mindset. If he can speak by stooping to such a level, it means you have a weak foundation.”
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has moved an adjournment motion seeking discussion on the caste census and said that Anurag Thakur’s statement shows arrogance.
“This shows the arrogance of the BJP. We all know that Anurag Thakur always thinks differently. They have a hierarchical mindset. Rahul Gandhi stands with Dalits, OBCs, and minorities. Rahul Gandhi stands for everybody who is oppressed, and voiceless. Rahul Gandhi’s reply was very gentle, genuine and decent. He replied that you may insult in whatever terms you want in the House but I will stand for the cause of social justice and we will work for social justice and caste census. As a follow-up, I have moved an Adjournment Motion Notice in Parliament because the Census has been delayed,” he said.
Congress MP Hibi Eden said Anurag Thakur constantly used unparliamentary words, adding that Rahul Gandhi will continue his fight.
He said, “Anurag Thakur has been constantly using unparliamentary words or undemocratic ways to tackle Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi will continue his fight at the very end.”
Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Ahulia alleged that Anurag Thakur is doing this to satisfy his bosses.
“Asking someone about his caste is not good behaviour; he satisfies his bosses by using foul words in the parliament. This is parliament; the opposition’s work is to raise questions and the government’s job is to answer those questions. Using foul words is not the answer,” he said.
“We will try to pass the caste census bill in parliament,” he added
Earlier on Wednesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s statements on Mahabharata and Chakravyush and said that some people are ‘accidental Hindus’ and their knowledge of Mahabharata is accidental too.
The BJP leader was speaking during the discussion on the budget in the monsoon session of Parliament when he took a swipe at the leader of the opposition for his speech at the budget session in Parliament on Tuesday.
Anurag Thakur entered into a heated argument with Rahul Gandhi during his speech in the lower house of the Parliament, saying that those whose caste is unknown are speaking on the issue of caste census.
In an attack on Rahul Gandhi, Anurag Thakur said that if he had not seen or read the Mahabharata, then at least he should have read the novel “The Great Indian Novel” by his MP Shashi Tharoor.
