Outreach program of SCERT delegates held at NIT Srinagar as part of NEP

Srinagar, Feb 08: Under the outreach program as envisaged in New Education Policy NEP 2020, Physics lectures from School Education department, who were under training capsule at State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Srinagar visited National Institution of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.
Dr. Sajad Ahmad Mir, Sr. Academic Officer (Physics), SCERT Bemina Srinagar, had decided to carry out proceedings of Program titled “Content Enrichment and Pedagogical Approach in Teaching of Physics at Higher Secondary level” at NIT Srinagar campus.
On the occasion, Director NIT, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal, said these training sessions for the faculty members are need of the hour. If a few of the participants will get motivated through these programs, then it will be the biggest contribution to society,” he said.
Later Prof. Sehgal also distributed gifts and citations among the participants.
In his message, Institute’s Registrar Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari also appreciated the Physics department for hosting such training programs. The institute is committed to taking all possible steps to empower society, he said.
The purpose of the program was to provide practical education in different state of art laboratories of the Department of Physics under the patronship and guidance of Prof M A Shah, Head Department of Physics, NIT Srinagar.
In the pre-lunch session, Dr. Anju Sehgal, ex. Principal Government Degree College Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh also discussed various things related to the holistic development of students and the role of teachers. The shadow concept was appreciated by the participants and indeed need of the hour.
“Practical work can in fact facilitate learning in the classroom. Using a practical activity can help structure a lesson and improve engagement and knowledge retention,” she said.
Dr. Saifullah Lone (Ramanujan Fellow/Scientist-D) highlighted various things and stressed that there is a need to throw out orthodox teaching methods like expired medicines and prepare students for innovative learners. He also discussed innovative teachings and their impact on society.
Dr. Tariq Ahmad Sofi, a plant pathologist from SKUAST shared his experience of US with the delegates and stressed for truthfulness in all our dealings
Prof. (Dr.) M. A. Shah, HOD Physics, NIT Srinagar highlighted the need for application-based teaching integrated into the classroom. Half of the time in class needs to be spent on demonstrations and rest time for teaching. Straightforward teaching in Physics will say goodbye to rote learning and coaching.
Dr. Shah extended and promised his full cooperation in making the future programs a big success. Earlier, Dr. Shah welcomed delegates in Physics department and presented an overview of all laboratories of the department.
He also took participants to the laboratory and gave a simple demonstration along with his colleagues. Hands-on operations were carried out by Dr. Nadim (AP) and other scholars of the department. The staff of the department as well as of Laboratories actively participated in making the arrangements.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Mir, Sr. Academic/Research Officer (Physics), SCERT, Bemina, Srinagar and Mr. Khurshid Ahmad. It was organized by Department of Education in Science and Mathematics SCERT Bemina, Srinagar
The team hailed the efforts and work of the Physics department and thanked Prof M. A Shah for making this program a grand success for them.
Prof Shah while thanking his team who made us proud all the time particularly when outside delegates visit the department, invited them on National Science Day scheduled on 28th Feb 2023.
Prof H C Verma from IIT Kanpur shall be the Chief Guest on the occasion and students from all parts of the valley are expected to participate.
