Padma Shri Balwant Thakur Calls on VC JU

JAMMU, February 26: Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, the former Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa and Mauritius who has also been the Secretary, J&K Academy of Arts Culture and Languages and Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations in the Ministry of External Affairs, called on the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai.

During the meeting, while complementing Prof Rai for his innovative initiatives of transforming the University of Jammu into a major hub of cultural happenings, Balwant Thakur shared his global vision of new cultural approaches and interventions in academics. Interestingly, Balwant Thakur represented India in over a hundred international cities showcasing vibrant Indian culture abroad.

He desired the University of Jammu to take up the role of a catalyst in revolutionizing the cultural landscape of the Jammu region. The culture of this part of the world is so diverse and rich that if its potential is showcased professionally can attract global tourism to this region. Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu appreciated the efforts of Sh  Balwant Thakur for propagating the culture and history of Jammu in particular and J&K in general through the medium of theatre in the International arena. He informed that in order to provide exposure and a platform to students and for their holistic development, the University of Jammu has initiated the process to form 12 different Clubs.
