Petition against former Pak PM Khan, former ex-ISI chief for facilitating resettlement of militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province

Peshawar, April 28 (PTI) A writ petition demanding the setting up of a judicial commission has been filed against Pakistan President Arif Alvi, ousted premier Imran Khan and former ISI chief Faiz Hameed and others to probe how militants resettled and regrouped in the country’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the last few years.

The petition filed by Awami National Party (ANP) in the Peshawar High Court on Thursday also demanded immediate and concrete measures to restore peace in the restive province and to stop further resettlement of militants and spillover of militancy across the country, The News International newspaper reported.

In the petition, ANP provincial chief Aimal Wali Khan named Imran Khan, president Alvi, former Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence Lt Gen (retd) Hameed, former chief minister Mahmood Khan, and ex-spokesman of the KP government Barrister Saif and demanded a judicial commission to probe the issue.

The federal and provincial governments have also been made parties in the petition asking for a judicial inquiry by the PHC chief justice to find out who helped the Taliban to resettle in the province in the last few years.

It stated that peace was restored after great sacrifices by the police, and other security forces as well as efforts and sacrifices of the ANP government.

The writ petition also demanded measures to stop the regrouping of militants and further spread of the menace of terrorism in the province and the rest of the country.

The ANP leadership said they had first revealed the former governor and chief minister giving extortion to the militants instead of taking measures to ensure peace in restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

It said they had no option left but to move the higher courts for immediate measures for the restoration of peace in the province.

The petitioner claimed that Imran Khan with the alleged assistance of Hameed allowed the settlement of militants after terrorism was eliminated from the country.

He said the cricketer-turned-politician had admitted several times to the media that he had facilitated the resettlement of militants.
