PhD Scholars Triumph in NIT Srinagar’s Inter-Department Cricket Final
Srinagar, May 26: In a thrilling final match of the Inter Department Cricket Tournament (M) 2024 at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, the PhD Team defeated the PG Team by 17 runs.
Batting first, the PhD team scored 173 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 20 overs. Inam Ul Haq, leading the team, scored a brilliant 45 runs off 31 balls, while Showket Ahmad contributed 30 runs off 13 balls.
From the PG team, Ather Nabi took 4 wickets in his allotted 4 overs, and Sheikh Tanveer claimed 3 wickets in 4 overs.
Chasing a target of 174 runs, the PG team fell short, scoring 157 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, losing the final by 17 runs.
Adil Iqbal scored 34 runs off 17 balls, and Sheikh Tanveer added 29 runs off 16 balls. Shabaz from the PhD team took 3 wickets in 4 overs.
The tournament was organized by the Department of Physical Education NIT Srinagar.
Institute’s Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman, Dean Planning and Development, Dr. Yashwant Mehta, Estates Officer Dr. Karthik Dasari, Dr. Srinibash Mishra, SAS Coordinator and other teaching and non-teaching staff members were present on the occasion.
In the post-match ceremony, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman and Dean Planning & Development Dr. Yashwant awarded the Winners & Runners Up trophy to the Winning and losing teams.
In his message, the Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman, highlighted the benefits of sports, emphasizing that participation in sports activities promotes health and well-being.
“I appreciate all the players who actively participated in this tournament. In the future, we will organize more such tournaments on the campus,” he said.
Prof. Rahman mentioned that NIT Srinagar has developed state-of-the-art sports facilities on campus over the past several years and will continue to expand them.
In the tournament, 12 teams participated, including CED, CSE, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, MME, ECE, IT, Mechanical Engineering, PhD “A”, PhD “B”, PG “A”, and PG “B”.
