“PM Modi, Kejriwal doing same thing; Congress contesting on development issue”: Sandeep Dikshit
New Delhi [India], January 5 (ANI): Ahead of the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit on Sunday morning hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, and said that they are indulging in the same thing, which is inaugurating development projects and announcing welfare schemes.
He said that both – PM Modi and Kejriwal – are unable to tell why these development projects failed to start in the last 10 years and are only being done days before the model code of conduct is expected to be implemented.
“People understand all this is being done just because elections are around the corner. Kejriwal and PM Modi are doing the same thing. Both of them keep raising questions on one another but neither of them can answer why all these development projects were not started in the last 10 years. Why is it being done just days before MCC is expected to be implemented? It is unfortunate that people in such positions (of CM and PM) don’t do anything for 10 years and focus on development only before the polls,” Dikshit, who is the Congress candidate from New Delhi Vidhan Sabha, told ANI.
Taking a dig at AAP, Dikshit said that other parties are distributing money but Congress was fighting on the issue of development. He further questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the performance of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in the last decade.
“We are not fighting with anyone. We are here to talk about the development in New Delhi. Other parties are distributing money. We are saying that you fight on the issue of development. We will ask the BJP also why the MCD destroyed Delhi. What has DDA done in the last 10 years? We will contest the elections on 10 years of Congress rule in Delhi and the shortcomings of BJP and AAP governments,” Dikshit said.
This comes after PM Modi inaugurated the 1,675 newly constructed flats for the dwellers of JJ clusters and also handed over keys to eligible beneficiaries at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, Delhi. Ahead of the inauguration, PM Modi also inspected newly constructed flats for the dwellers of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 12,200 crore at around 12:15 PM on Sunday, January 5 in Delhi.
The Prime Minister will also undertake a ride in Namo Bharat Train at around 11:15 AM from Sahibabad RRTS Station to New Ashok Nagar RRTS Station, according to the Prime Minister’s Office press release.
Marking a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity, PM Modi will inaugurate the 13 km stretch of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, worth around Rs 4,600 crore.
BJP released its first list of 29 candidates for Delhi assembly elections on Saturday. The party has fielded Parvesh Verma from the New Delhi assembly seat against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP had won 62 out of 70 seats in the 2020 assembly elections. In the assembly elections held in 2015, it came to power with full majority by winning 67 out of 70 seats.
