“PM Modi made numerous efforts to rid country of corruption,” says Union Minister Piyush Goyal

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 26 (ANI): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to combat corruption and streamline India’s business landscape during his address at the Vayapari Sammelan in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on Tuesday, stating that Prime Minister Modi made numerous efforts over the past 10 years of his tenure to rid the country of corruption.

“PM Modi has made numerous efforts over the past 10 years to rid the country of corruption. The journey of work has been quite long, and you must have experienced it to some extent. He boosted the morale of the nation, strengthened its resolve, and endeavoured to untangle the legal web in the country,” Piyush Goyal said.

Goyal noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, nearly 40,000 compliance requirements have been streamlined, and over 1600 laws have been repealed, providing relief to entrepreneurs from the looming threat of incarceration.

“Nearly 40,000 compliances, involving various industries, which required paperwork and form filling, have been streamlined. More than 1600 laws have been repealed. Through the Jan Vishwas Bill, provisions of imprisonment in certain laws were converted into fines. We all know the kind of treatment we (businessmen) used to receive with threats of imprisonment,” Piyush Goyal said.

Emphasising the government’s focus on enhancing the ease of doing business, Goyal revealed that India’s ranking has improved from above 140 to 63 in the World Bank rankings.

”PM Modi also focused significantly on simplifying trade and industry, which is referred to as ease of doing business. Our ranking, which was above 140 in the World Bank rankings, has improved to 63, and this is a four-year-old figure. Perhaps today, that ranking is around 25 or 30,” Piyush Goyal said.

Goyal further highlighted India’s ascension from the 10th to the 5th largest economy stating, ”PM Modi’s continuous efforts aim at making things easier for businessmen. Today, after 10 years, our country’s ranking, which was 10th among the largest economies in the world, has risen to 5th. Modi has also guaranteed that in the third term, our country will rank 3rd among the largest economies in the world.”

Amid global economic challenges, Goyal lauded India’s rapid progress.

”While many major countries in the world are currently experiencing a recession, India is advancing rapidly,” Piyush Goyal said.

Earlier on March 15 Union Minister Piyush Goyal, along with Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State, spearheaded the launch of various initiatives on World Consumer Rights Day, held in Mumbai.

These initiatives aim to bolster consumer rights and welfare across diverse sectors. Goyal emphasized the significance of consumer empowerment in driving India towards a prosperous future.

In a move to enhance the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, a state-of-the-art Video Conferencing Facility was inaugurated.

This facility allows for dispute hearings in a hybrid mode, benefiting consumers by providing them with the opportunity to participate from their homes.
